Day 3

Week 2.... Day #3 of Preschool.
How's it going?

Drop off for Logan & Livi is going well.  Hayden still tearful, but apparently is off & playing within minutes of Jeff leaving.

They are "switching" classrooms.  I was amazed that they could find a spot in 1 classroom for 3 toddlers initially.  And it sounds like they were kind of just shuffling things around to get by & fit them in wherever they could at first, but they have taken well to one teacher (or she has taken to them) & so she asked if she could officially have them permanently in her class.  LOVE that she ASKED for them!  And she reminds me hugely of our very first 'ole babysitter Jill which makes me like her even more.  So they will officially be in Mrs. Beth's class.

They are all participating & even "tried" to write the letter A today.  (which it appears quickly just turned into coloring)  But for day 3 of preschool for not quite 3 year olds, Mrs. Beth says participation & trying is awesome!  And they all participated in talking about the letter A today, so they are learning & growing & thats what we're really hoping for!

We have been sending the boys in pull-ups each day, as we are a little bit chicken & didn't want to further upset them if they had any accidents in an already new & hard situation.  They had not thus far included anything in their daily sheets about potty stuff... so it was on Jeff's "to do" list to ask at pick up today.  But when he picked him up she said, "They were dry all morning, so I put them in those underwear that were in their cubby rather than pull-ups after nap.  Hope thats ok?"  LOVE her!  And yay boys!!

And I can tell they are getting more comfortable there, because 2 out of 3 of them took off their jackets.  I know, you're thinking "Took off their jackets?"  Apparently that is a comfort thing for them.  Kind of like that whole "take off your coat & stay a while" thing.  They apparently thus far haven't wanted to "stay a while."  Today Logan & Olivia did.  Yay for baby steps!

So proud of them!

1st trip to the Dentist.... CHECK!!

Yeah, so we jumped in on the bandwagon a little on the late side.  We waited until WE could enter our kids' mouths without having to hog tie them & hoped that would reflect on their cooperation with foreign objects & foreign fingers probing around.

We choose a pediatric dentist recommended by a few co-workers.  And I loved the place.  What's not to love about an electric train circling the whole place?  Or TVs on the ceiling above every chair?  Or hygienists that let the kids play with the tools?  Or tokens for prizes afterwards in addition to picking out a new awesome robot/CARS/princess toothbrush?

Two out of 3 did GREAT.  Laid nice on the table.  Opened wide.  No tears.
One.  Not as much.  One sat on my lap backwards, with head on hygienist or dr's lap.  While I held his hands down.  But even that one did pretty well given the scary nature of dentists!  Luckily Grandma GG came along to help us!!

I... yes I... picture crazy mom, forgot my camera.  So these are all taken with our camera phones (& no neither of us have entered the 21st century in terms of cell phones).  So bare with me on the quality.

Olivia went first.  Wanted to hold hands at first, but did so good!
Logan was excited to go next.  Jumped up on the chair all ready to go. He was just beyond amazing!!  Funny how he can be such a chicken sometimes & Mr. Brave other times.
Then Hayden.  This was more what I expected all around.  So only 1 out of 3 was a pleasant surprise.
They each got a token for a prize afterwards!

So what did he have to say?

#1.  Teeth are still forming during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy.  So prematurity can impact teeth. (And every thing else in our lives... tired of hearing it!)  We have to wait & see obviously, but be prepared for possible prematurity induced teeth issues, he specifically mentioned small size or discoloration.

#2.  Livi's baby teeth are crowded.  We all know adult teeth are bigger.  Hint dropped to start saving for braces.  Thanks.

#3.  Logan has a few hypoplastic (small/short) teeth on the left top.  Will watch to see down the road how those adult teeth grow in.  And pay special attention now to getting those cleaned well as a cavity on a small tooth will spread more rapidly.

#4.  Hayden, like his mama, has deep crevices in his teeth, making him more prone to cavities.  Brush diligently.  And like his papa, has a slight overbite.  May improve with age, may worsen with age.  Will watch & see how it goes.

#5.  Remember to floss.  I know, I know.  I HATE floss.  Even for myself.  Ugh.  He said if its hard to do cooperation wise with them, at least get the space between the 2 back teeth on top & bottom.  Need to work on getting that into our routine more regularly.

#6.  Add fluoride.  We have not been using fluoride toothpaste because they are just getting the hang of spitting.  He said, use less toothpaste, just a smear, but use fluoride.  They won't swallow enough to do any harm.

The good news... so far we are succeeding with our dental hygeine!  No cavities!!  Yay!  See ya in 6 months!!

We're going to have a party!!!

A big week!

Monday, Jeff started his new job & the kids started daycare pre-school!

It went fairly well for a 1st day.  We had to wake them up early.  Like 6am early.  Usual wake up time as of late is aroud 7:30.  Hayden (who usually wakes the rest of the house up) was groggy & grumpy.  Logan was up, peppy & ready to go!  Livi, some where in between.

Drop off went better than expected.  There is a big play-gym indoors (think McDonald's Play Place) & that is where they meet in the mornings.  Logan took right off to go play.  Livi followed suit.  And after about 3 minutes of tears & some mommy snuggles, Hayden joined in.  And we snuck out the door.  (..... in tears....yeah we're those parents!)

I'm sure there was a pretty hard shock, when they came down that slide & realized we weren't there.  Makes me sick to think about it actually.  But I keep telling myself, our shy little dudes NEED this badly.  I want them to be more socialized, because I want them to be ready when "real" school knocks on our door.  I don't want them to fail because I sheltered them.  And they really are quite shy & need some practice.  I want them to spent some time in school TOGETHER getting it all figured out, because I think by kindergarten, I want them seperate.  Not that I want to break the love-hate bond that they have with eachother, but I want them each to be their own person.  Make their own friends.  Survive & thrive as themself... not as "the triplets." (a phrase that 9 times out of 10 makes me cringe by the way)  I don't what them to be "the triplets," I want them to be individuals.  They are infact & I want them & everyone else to recognize that.

I called about 15 minutes after drop off.... because I forgot to tell them that Olivia had not gone potty that morning.  She is a camel.  Honestly pees usually just 4 times a day.  Usually wakes up at 7:30 & doesn't pee until 9, so despite our best efforts, nothing was going to happen at 6am!  And I was worried she would be too shy/scared to tell them & have an accident.

And I called at 12:30 to check in.  It was naptime.  Logan was asleep.  Hayden & Livi were tearful, missing mommy & daddy.  But they each had a teacher rubbing their backs.  And they all ended up sleeping 1.5 hours.  She said Logan & Olivia both vocally participated when they talked about the letter D & the number 7 in circle time.  And Hayden (who for us is the most social out & about) was the most stand-off-ish & had the hardest day.  She said they really didn't leave eachothers sides all day. (which I completely expected)  But made a point to say & emphasize like 10 times, that "especially for being their 1st day, they are SUCH good listeners!"  While I politely said "aw, thanks" what I was thinking was {yeah, because they are scared shit-less}.  Hayden & Livi were too shy, sad, tired, or something to eat breakfast, but they all did good with snacks & lunch.  Overall, sounds like an ok day.  The one thing our daily sheet doesn't say is potty stuff.  I am curious how the boys did?  I will have to ask if they can include that for us.  I'm thinking next drop off will be harder, because they will know whats in store & Logan told Jeff Monday night "I don't want you to be a teacher dad.  I want you to stay home."  Talk about a heart breaker!  But hopefully as time goes on, they will grow to enjoy it.

Several of my awesome co-workers offered to stay late or cover for me so I could go to drop off day #1.  Otherwise, since Jeff goes in later & gets off earlier, he will always be the drop off & pick up parent.  Which I kind of don't like, because I'd like to be more present, get to know the gals.  I think you get such an important feel for things in those moments.  Going to have to play that part by ear as we go along on how I can feel more "included" in this.

Just 2 days in, things are going well for Jeff too.  Lots to do & learn jumping in mid-year school.  Fly by the seat of your pants!  Crazy.

Tomorrow is the kids' 1st dentist appointment.  That ought to be interesting.....

And today... I turned 29.... again!  Just kidding.  I'm 30.  Sounds so weird to say.  THIRTY.  3.0.

I had the day home with the kiddos.  We ran errands.  Lunched out.  Went to the park.  (a new-to-us-park we discovered within what I think will be walking distance from our house!)  It was a BEAUTIFUL day!  Went out to eat dinner as a family.  Picked up an ice cream cake on the way home.  And each of the kids sang at least part of "Happy Birthday" to me through the evening.  So I couldn't have asked for a better day.
My "Go Big Red" cake we picked up from DQ on the way home on a whim.  Livi told me all day it wasn't my birthday yet because we didn't have cake.  So we decided it was essential!  The kids thought the cake was awesome (because Jeff has warped them into trained them to be some serious little Husker football fans).  Logan & Liv ate a whole piece & even Hayden ate the vanilla ice cream part.  However, looking at the pictures.... it looks a little like a cruel Halloween joke.  Oh well, who cares... its ice cream cake!!  YUM!!
 Enjoying our cake!

Starting this decade off with a bang!  I can't wait to see what my 30s have in store for me!

DIVA!!

I have our 3 year pictures CD in my hand!
Now taking pictures of 3 almost 3 year olds was no easy task.  Cooperation was minimal.  This go round Olivia in specific was less than smiley.  Infact I'm surprised there aren't more like this!  This makes me giggle though, classic Hayden!

Here's my faves:

Hayden Thomas- 3 years old

Olivia Paige- 3 years old

Logan Daniel - 3 years old

My three (almost) THREE year olds!!!
These 2 the boys specifically did so well & Livi, not as much...
I wish I could find something better of her face & crop it in because I LOVE the boys in this one!

The 5 of us!
