Tuesday he already didn't eat great. Tuesday night was sleepless. By Wednesday his temp was 102, there was snot everywhere & he coughed so hard he puked 5 times. He was breathing kind of fast & hard, good thing we had Albuterol left over from RSV because it got used. I think Jeff & I each got just 2 or 3 crummy hours of sleep Wednesday night. Thursday, I was off to work....
Thursday he was still feeling pretty icky so we caved & Jeff got an appointment scheduled with the pediatrician on Friday. By Thursday afternoon it had hit Olivia. Again... thank goodness we had plenty of Albuterol around! She coughed til she puked once Friday. And by the time we left for the Dr. on Friday afternoon Hayden was fairly coughy & sick too. We all maybe got 2 hours of sleep Thursday night. And by morning Jeff & I were trying to remember how in the heck we lived off such little sleep for months with newborn triplets. The only thing we could rationalize was they were so much slower & sleepier during the day then!
Apparently they all missed the memo its SUMMER!! You're NOT supposed to be sick!!!
They all sounded crummy, crummy in the office. And they all got albuterol-atrovent nebulizer treatments in the office & we went home in better shape than we arrived. Actually they said Hayden who physically looked & acted the best sounded the worst. I can only assume thats because he hadn't had any Albuterol at home. Thank goodness we did have that at home or we'd of probably landed in the ER one of those nights with Log or Liv!
We left with prescriptions for a 5 day course of steroids for each of them. 2 new nebulizers (so our collection now equals 3) & a bunch more Albuterol (since we drained our stash dry!.) An antibiotic for Olivia, who has an ear infection in her left ear. (Exactly where she stuck her finger Thursday night to show me her owies while she cried for 2 hours.) Ugh! The boys' ears are ok. Her & Logan are still running some 100 fevers with Motrin & Tylenol on-board. Hayden thankfully hasn't had much of a fever & has stayed below 99 with just Tylenol. Though I did get the ok to give him Motrin since we are 3.5 weeks post-op (though I won't use it if I don't have to.)
So glad we got 2 more nebulizers (& so sad that this makes me glad) As much as we have used the one we have & given treatment to one kid, after other kid, after other kid... it will be nice to have the option to do it all at once. And I am SO glad we got steroids. Olivia's cough Thursday night was borderline croupy. And her asthmatic tendencies & croup made me nervous. And knowing Hayden's croupy tendencies I forsaw an ER visit for him for a racemic treatment & steroids tonight at 2am. So glad I didn't have to ask for it.
We stopped at Walmart on the way home to pick up prescriptions. I intended to just run in quick. But there was a screaming/crying fit from the back about NEEDING to go in. So we obliged. And about 12 feet into the store, there was a screaming/crying fit about one little boy who had left his sticker from the Dr. office in the car. A screaming/crying fit.... a cough.... a gag.... PUKE! IN WALMART!! PUKE!! Hayden puked in Walmart! So I took daddy, 2 clothed & 1 naked kid home.... and went back to Walmart. My kid puked in Walmart.... I'm officially old.
Not sure what bug we caught.... but its not very friendly.
By this evening after another neb treatment & a dose of steroids, everybody snacked on cheese & crackers. And had energy to play. But hacked & coughed & hacked & coughed if they played too hard.
Instead of enjoying dinner, bounce houses & fireworks in the park for our community days.... we enjoyed the buzzing noise of 3 nebulizers running at once.
After Hayden's surgery we are only $800 away from meeting our health insurance annual out of pocket max... so after buying 2 nebs & this visit we've got to be almost there. Not that I want us to be sick ever, ever again.... but at least for the rest of the year it should all be free! (How's that for glass half full mentality!)
