Ear ache

I wish my kids could explain to me what was bothering/hurting them.  They say owie & ask for a kiss on their toe if they stub it.  Or need kisses on their "owie" wrinkly fingers after a bath {wierdos}.  You would think they could tell me "ear owie" when they have an ear infection!!

Monday, 4 days after Logan's antibiotics for his probable pneumonia were done, his fever was back.  Monday it was 100.  I called the pediatrician office just to touch base considering our past 3 weeks.  His cough & runny nose were back (they had been completely gone) & he slept awful Sunday night.  He was cheerful, eating, drinking, peeing & no real respiratory concerns.  They don't really consider 100 to be a concerning fever & considering everything else, we just went with the "probably something else viral" theory & decided to wait it out.  He spent all week having a "fever" of like 99.5, which they don't really consider a true fever.  He has slept awful all week, up 4+ times a night.  I tried to chalk it up to a common cold.  Or maybe 2 year molars?  But today at noon his fever spiked to 102.  He refused to eat his favorite lunch- french fries & chicken nuggets.  And instead was just bumming on the couch.  So I called the pediatrician again, and in we went for another check-up.

Sure enough, he has an ear infection.  I knew it.  Damn.  Antibiotics round 2 for Logan.  {At least his little diaper butt is holding up well so far!}

As for the cough & snot?  Could be a cold Jeff or I brought home.  It could still be teething (he is drooling).  Or it could be a residual RSV "flare up."  For 4-6 months apparently we can have "flare up"s.  Return of snot.  Wheezing episodes.  Recurrent ear infections are possible.  Bla, bla, bla.  As if the last 3.5 weeks haven't been enough!  This damn thing reserves the right to plague us for 6 months if it sees fit!  Hopefully spring is knocking at our door & we won't have any further "complications" from this whole ordeal.

I had them look in Hayden's ears too since we were there.  Considering he is on day 8 of 10 of his antibiotics for an ear infection.  I wanted to know it was looking good, so we hopefully aren't back in 6 days when we find out his ears aren't cleared up.  Good news is, they look good.  A little fluid back there yet, but nothing inflammed.  His snot is basically gone.  And his coughing is very infrequent.  So hopefully he is on the fast track to healthy.

Better news, Logan has gained back 5oz this past week!  He was 25lbs 12oz.  Hopefully the other 18oz or so come back quickly too.
