A few people have asked, so here it is:
How is all of this Olivia potty trained business really going?
Olivia is doing great. Fantastic. I would say in the 3 weeks since she has been home from the hospital, she has had less than 10 accidents. Two of which were poops {which quickly made me realize that cloth diapers are SO not for me!} She usually only wears a diaper at night {& occasionally wakes up dry in the morning.} She goes pee before nap & wakes up dry & pees after nap. If I can't get her to go right before nap, or if she drank a lot that morning for some reason, I'll put her down in a diaper. But otherwise she naps in panties too. And those 8-ish accidents she has had, those INCLUDE nap accidents. So I think thats pretty darn fantastic!!
When she does have an accident. Its like a full-bladder, soaked down to her toes, can ring pee out of her socks, need a dunk in the tub to rinse off, type of accident. She's not much of a "dribble, catch herself & stop" type gal. So thankfully her accidents are so infrequent.
She likes to go back & forth between the big & little potties. Its always a surprise which she'll choose. She needs help using the big potty. And obviously help wiping & dumping the little potty. {Though today I did catch Hayden in the bathroom with an Olivia pee-filled little potty in hand attempting to "help" & dump it today! OMG! Glad I caught it before it became a mess!}
The boys like to "watch." Infact they will stop what they are doing & follow us in the bathroom saying "I want to watch!" And they insist on washing their hands after Olivia does. But other than that, still zero interest from them. {Which to be honest is fine by me. They are my (or Jeff's!) July agenda!}
If a couple hours goes by & she hasn't gone, I'll take her. Otherwise she tells us when she needs to go. OR we'll see her walking down the hall with her pants around her ankles! For some reason she likes to pull her pants down BEFORE she gets to the bathroom. Walk/hobble all the way there with them around her ankles. When she gets to the bathroom she has to sit down on the floor& finish taking them completely off before she sits on the potty.
The biggest downfall is she has learned to put on & take off her own clothes. And insists that "Ya-ya do it!" constantly. Don't you DARE even touch her clothes to try to help... or she will have to take them all the way, completely, 100% back off & start all over again all while yelling "NO!! Ya-ya do it!!!" So getting dressed or undressed at the end of the day takes a LONG time if she's not in the mood to accept any help.
At this point, its really about the same amount of work as diapers. {at home anyways} Between accidents, wiping, potty dumping, undressing, re-dressing, etc, etc. Just cheaper!
Today we took a Saturday afternoon drive... just to get out of the house. We are that old couple. Ok, ok, the truth. We are starting to kinda sorta start to look at houses. Again. And not very seriously. But we do hope to move & upgrade our space this fall, and we wanted to drive by & peek at a few. Mid-way through our drive, Livi yelled out from her carseat "I need to pee a potty!" So we stopped at the closest gas station & sure enough, she peed in the potty! I was proud she knew early enough & was able to hold it until we got to a potty. We stopped at Walmart for an inhaler & furnace filter, then as we were heading home, again "I need to pee a potty!" So we ran her in as soon as we got home... sure enough, she was still dry & peed again! She was in a pull-up, just incase. {I'm still too chicken to brave panty accidents out & about given the amount of pee she pees with accidents!} But she would have been totally fine! I was so totally impressed that she told us while driving!!
